The Phoenix Triathlon Club Junior’s Program exists to provide a safe, friendly environment for young adults to gather for the purpose of training, learning about the sport and racing with others. Within the Junior’s Program, the Junior Elite Team strives to develop young adults into future club advocates, leaders in the triathlon community, and positive role models.
Introduction
The Phoenix Triathlon Club’s Junior’s program was developed in January of 2005 and continues to evolve and grow under the leadership of Patrick Moty, the Director. The program is intended to showcase and help young triathletes refine their skills as they develop in the sport. As
In addition to providing camaraderie at club races by showing up as a team, we offer training/workout sessions each month. These include not only a workout, but also instructional time in the different disciplines and aspects of racing and training. There are also training clinics in the individual disciplines. The Juniors are encouraged to volunteer to assist with the "Tri-Kids Program" which is intended to provide a springboard into our sport for youngsters. This is an excellent opportunity to serve as role models to the younger athletes and work on leadership skills.
Minimum necessities to participate: Swim suit, running shoes, bicycle helmet, bicycle, water bottle and SUNSCREEN. Recommended accessories: Swim cap, swim goggles, lightweight breathable shorts, and sunglasses. If you have trouble getting any of these, please address this on your registration form and we may be able to assist you.
There is a $20/year fee for Juniors 16 and under and $30 for full-time students over 16, to join the Junior’s Program. This will give full membership amenities of the Phoenix Triathlon Club. For more information contact Patrick Moty at (480) 419-5707.

From the ranks of the Phoenix Triathlon Club’s Juniors, the board of directors select up to 4 members each year to represent the Club as Junior Elite Members. This annual selection is based on those who apply and is not decided on ability but rather on the athlete’s tenure with the club (at least 1 year), level of participation, positive attitude, and leadership qualities. These Juniors serve as ambassadors not only to the club but also the sport of triathlon and represent the future of our sport.
As part of their commitment, memgers of the Junior Elite team are expected to:
-Represent the club and it’s sponsors by wearing club uniforms displaying sponsors logos during races and training.
-Participate in at least 3 club recommended races.
-Attend monthly club meetings when possible.
-Volunteer at club events and group workouts.
-Assist with the development of younger athletes.
-Assist their fellow Junior Triathletes where possible.
-Provide feedback regarding sponsors product .
-Provide at least one brief write-up for the website on one of the season’s races/events from their perspective.
In return, the PTC assists them with additional support from club sponsors for equipment, merchandise and clothing.

Welcome to the Phoenix Tri Kids information page. We’re glad you found us! Phoenix Tri Kids was organized with a specific purpose in mind; to promote the sport of triathlon and healthy lifestyles for youth. Through workout sessions and group participation in races across the city, our goal is to build a group that trains, socializes, and races together. While triathlon racing ultimately is an individual sport, Phoenix Tri Kids works to help young triathletes develop their skills, and build their own tri community.
We focus on swim technique, biking skills and safety, and running form. Athletes learn about transitions, training, nutrition, and race strategies. We provide young athletes with plans for training on their own and time management strategies to fit sports, homework, responsibilities, and fun into their busy schedules.
Our training sessions are led by experienced triathletes, coaches, and other members of the fitness community. Parent participation is welcomed and strongly encouraged. Often, members of the Phoenix Junior Elite Team will be leading our groups; kids’ who, just a few years ago, were starting out in triathlon and are now at the top of their game.
Stay tuned for details on our program for 2008.

Some of the other things I like to do include anything to do with art (except for painting since I’m too detail oriented for paint), mountain biking, BMX, I love fast cars, girls, and good martial arts action flicks! As a member of the PTC, I aim to be a great role model for upcoming juniors in the sport and I do my best to help other members whether it is a tip to make their transitions faster or loan them a spare inner tube on a group ride. For the 2008 season, I hope to continue running adult swim clinics and kids triathlon camps as a sponsored junior elite on the

P.J. Allen
I am PJ Allen, an eighth grader who enjoys swimming, triathlons, playing the bagpipe, and goaltending late night ice hockey games. My exposure to triathlons came from swimming. At the age of 8, I began to swim year round as a way of increasing my lung capacity to offset the trauma I suffer from allergic reactions to food. In 2005 a swim buddy told me about local youth triathlons. A few months later I competed in my first youth tri at Eldorado Pool in Scottsdale, the very pool where I learned to swim. Later that summer I competed in my first sprint triathlon in Flagstaff.
I joined the PTC kids in 2006 so I could learn training techniques as I prepared for the Sara Lee IronKids Bread National Triathlon. I continue to participate in sprint triathlons, local aquathons, and a few road races when I am not playing my bagpipe with the Phoenix Scottish Pipe Band.
My goal for 2008 is to continue training with particular emphasis on running and cycling. I have enjoyed participating in past PTC kids events and want to help younger kids have as much fun as I have. I hope to give back to all from the PTC who have provided me with education and support during the past 18 months.
